A lifetime of healthy smiles starts with a strong foundation

Children’s oral health plays a major role in their overall development, from their very first tooth through the teenage years and into adulthood. But keeping up with dental visits can be a challenge when you are balancing work, school, and a full family schedule.

We are here to make things easier. Our dental office offers flexible hours and the ability to book appointments for multiple family members at once. Whether it is your toddler’s first checkup or your teenager’s routine cleaning, we are happy to find a time that works for you.

As your child grows, they will reach many dental milestones, starting with their first visit, losing baby teeth, getting their permanent teeth, and one day, visiting us on their own. A trusted Dentist in Vancouver can help your child stay confident and healthy at every step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most babies begin teething around six months of age. Dental associations recommend that a child visit the dentist by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. If you ever notice signs of pain or discomfort, or if something seems off, do not wait, book a visit right away. There is no such thing as too late when it comes to your child’s first dental checkup.

Baby teeth are just as important as permanent ones. They help your child chew food, develop speech, and hold the space needed for adult teeth.

They also play a role in shaping your child’s smile and self confidence. Early dental issues, even mild pain, can have a long term effect on how your child eats and feels about their smile. When children feel free to smile confidently, they are more likely to carry that confidence into adulthood.

Appointment length can vary depending on your child’s needs and comfort level. A typical first visit usually lasts around one hour, but we will always move at your child’s pace. If they are shy or nervous, we can adjust to make the visit as gentle and positive as possible.

Children should see the dentist just as often as adults. We recommend a checkup and cleaning every six months unless your dentist suggests a different schedule.

If your child complains of a sore tooth, rubs their jaw, avoids hard or cold foods, or just seems off, it is best to book an appointment sooner. Catching issues early helps protect their long term oral health.

A cavity is a small hole in the tooth that gets worse over time. While it may not always cause pain at first, untreated cavities can grow deeper and lead to infection. Even baby teeth need to be treated to prevent problems.

Cavities are caused by a mix of factors including bacteria, plaque buildup, and sugar or acid in food and drinks. Some children are more cavity prone than others, which is why regular dental care is so important.

Oral health includes much more than just your teeth. The mouth is a complex system made up of gums, teeth, the tongue, jaw joints, and more. If one part is struggling, the rest of the system is affected.

Red, swollen, itchy, or bleeding gums can signal early gum disease. In children, this may show up as sore gums or frequent irritation. Addressing gum health early helps avoid more serious issues down the road.

Absolutely. We understand how busy family life can be. That is why we offer the option to book several family members at the same time. Whether you want back to back appointments or a group visit, we are happy to help. Give us a call and let us take care of the logistics for you.

Dr Loo has been my dentist for over 12 years. I am always impressed by his consistency, dedication to his profession and genuine care for his patients. When discussing the procedure for either a root canal, bridge, crown or an extraction, he is patient and explains clearly all the options, pros/cons, and what to expect. During the procedure, he always makes sure you are fine and he is willing to make changes/adjustment for you to get the best results. He is very flexible to accommodate dental emergency requests and gives you a follow-up call himself after something serious such as a tooth extraction. All the staff on his team are friendly and helpful. Seeing a dentist is not a fun thing, however, I always feel reassured seeing Dr Loo, because I know I am in good hands. I highly recommend Dr Loo to anyone who is looking for a caring and competent dentist.
